The project

My name is Rob Howsam. I started Six Four Zero Two in 2012 as a way to fulfil a personal ambition: to have "just one song out there".

It’s predominantly a solo venture – I write and produce the music, and create all 6402 artwork and promos – but I also enjoy and welcome collaborations with other artists.

The name

As a misguided youth (out of work and arguably out of my mind) I joined the RAF and 6402 was part of my Service Number. I like the irony of using a label issued in such a restrictive environment as a moniker for creative freedom.

The music

The ingredients of the 6402 sound are rooted in Post-Punk but take in elements of other sounds and genres that have inspired me over the years.

X6402 collaborations

X6402 is an internet based collaborative project whereby I create instrumental tracks and share them as a 'blank canvas' for vocal artists to interpret as they wish. The resulting lyrics and vocals, in return, inspire the direction of the final X6402 production.

If you're up for a X6402 collab, get in touch.

Previous collaborators have included:

Bent Cousin

Guiville

Wheelwright

Juline Costa

Emma Forman

Suzanne Ledwith

'The Cruel Sea' was inspired by the words of a poem written by an old friend.

Drum tracks on: 'Broken Industry', 'Denmark' and 'Levante' by Enrico Sogari.
